Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava, Flatiron, Manhattan
Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava on West 25th Street in Manhattan. Richard Upjohn designed the cathedral and clergy house in 1850-51, and Jacob Wrey Mould created the parish house in 1860. A multi-year, multi-million dollar restoration master plan began implementation in the mid-1990s on this extraordinary building complex. The Fund provided three loans totaling $475,000 over this time, all collateralized with mortgages on a nearby row house owned by St. Sava as the value of the building increased in the rising New York market.
