This handsome corner property was constructed in 1903 with ornamental metal bays and rich masonry. It is a contributing building to the Stuyvesant North Historic District, a proposed expansion of the city and National Register-listed Stuyvesant Heights.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the renovation that created nine units of lower income and senior housing.

Cornerstone Baptist Church owns the Belmont at 547 Madison Street, which is just across the street from the Church. A City Ventures grant of $35,000 was used toward the restoration of the brownstone entryway, cornice repairs, brick pointing, and technical preservation assistance.
