Conservancy Honored with Award from the Sixth Street Community Center

Karen Ansis, Manager of the Conservancy’s City Ventures Fund, accepted a beautiful award at the Sixth Street Community Center’s 35th Anniversary dinner. The Conservancy was honored for helping the Community Center restore its entryway.

February 2012, 638 East 6th Street

The Sixth Street Community Center has new wooden doors thanks to a $25,000 City Ventures grant. The Center hosts a variety of community activities ranging from an organic restaurant to yoga classes.

The architecturally interesting building once housed Congregation Ahawath Yeshurun Shara Torah. Neighbors took over the vacant building decades ago and the Community Center has evolved into a colorful, activity-rich neighborhood gathering place.
