Exclusive Young Landmarks Tour of the South Side of Ellis Island
Young Landmarks members joined us for an adventure on June 10. Boarding an exclusively chartered National Park Service Ferry, they were treated to a tour of the rarely seen south side of Ellis Island followed by wine and cheese in the newly opened Ferry Building. During the evening our guests enjoyed a tour of the storied landmarks that evoked the hopes and fears of thousands of immigrants who were treated within them. A special thanks to Judith McAlpin of Save Ellis Island for hosting such a memorable evening.
Young Landmarks was founded in the winter of 2007 in order to acquaint the next generation of preservation enthusiasts with the Conservancy and with the City’s architectural treasures. Prior events have included lectures with noted architects, a behind-the-scenes look at the Farley Post office, a tour and cocktail reception on Governor’s Island and a private party at the Upper West Side’s Schinasi Mansion.
