The Landmarks Conservancy co-sponsored a reception for Anne Van Ingen who recently retired after 26 years with the New York State Council on the Arts. Through her leadership as director of architecture, planning and design, Anne dispensed grants to the Conservancy and many other preservation groups and projects throughout the state. Through various governors and state fiscal ups and downs, Anne supported preservation as essential to the state’s economy, tourism and quality of life.

In addition to her work at the Council, Anne served as a New York advisor to The National Trust for Historic Preservation and restored a historic New Orleans shotgun house damaged in Hurricane Katrina. She is a graduate of Columbia University’s preservation program.

At the gathering, Anne received The National Trust’s “President’s Award” from Trust Northeast Regional Director Wendy Nicholas and a momento from Council on the Arts Executive Director Heather Hitchens.

Speakers ranging from Conservancy President Peg Breen to former Arts Council Chair Richard Schwartz to Architectural League of New York Executive Director Rosalie Genevro praised Anne’s dedication, humor and grace.

The reception for more than 100 of Anne’s friends and colleagues was held November 11 at the Museum of the City of New York. The Museum, Architectural League and Municipal Art Society were co-sponsors.

Anne described herself as “between opportunities” and pledged to remain active in preservation.
