Historic Elmhurst Library
The Landmarks Conservancy has joined with the Queens Preservation Council to call upon the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to designate the historic public branch library in Elmhurst Queens as an individual landmark.
The library was built in 1906, with a grant from Andrew Carnegie.
The City has plans to expand or replace the 101-year-old facility with a larger branch.
Landmark designation would ensure that it will be preserved and appropriately re-used as part of the expansion project.
