Conservancy Partners With High School Program

-Students at Bronx International High School's Preservation Technology Program

February 2015

The Conservancy organized a workshop for Bronx International High School students enrolled in the school’s Preservation Technology Program. They were introduced to 3D modeling computer programs. Sketchup, 3D Warehouse, and Photoshop tutorials were conducted by Abe Jasonowski and Luke Palma of Acheson Doyle Partners Architects. Mr. Garth Williams, the Preservation Technology teacher, remarked that the students so enjoyed learning these programs, that they had to be chased out of the computer labs after school.

We have organized field trips for the students to Prospect Cemetery, the Gould Memorial Library at the Bronx Community College, the Thurgood Marshall US Courthouse, and the Woolworth Building. More trips are planned as well as workshops on mortar and efflorescence and green design.

Last year we hosted an intern who helped research historic buildings featured in our social media campaigns and we are hosting another intern this semester. We’ve also helped place an intern with an architectural firm working on several Bronx-based projects.

The Conservancy is proud to partner with Bronx International – inspiring the next generation of architects, craftsmen, designers, and engineers.
